About Bill Kern
I make complex systems understandable—and operable.
Director of I.T. at C.A. Curtze Co., with independent work spanning commercial software, open source, and self-hosted infrastructure.

Operating discipline comes from systems people depend on every day.
My primary professional role is Director of I.T. at C.A. Curtze Co., a regional foodservice distributor. I lead internal software development, infrastructure, systems modernization, and technology operations across a business where reliability affects warehousing, purchasing, sales, delivery, and customer service.
That environment has shaped how I build: systems must work around real operations, legacy constraints, security boundaries, and people who depend on them every day.
TradeBroker and the open-source projects presented here are independent work. They share the same preference for systems that are operationally grounded, understandable, self-hosted where practical, and designed to survive imperfect environments—not merely work in a demo.
How I work
Leadership close to the system.
I work across developers and infrastructure, modernization and support, long-term architecture, and the immediate operational problem in front of the business.
